Uttarakhand Chief Minister Applauds Approval of PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme

New Delhi [India], February 29: Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Pushkar Singh Dhami, expressed his admiration for the Union Cabinet’s approval of the PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme, emphasizing its significance in advancing clean and renewable energy and empowering households economically. He extended gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his leadership in spearheading this initiative.

The scheme, with a budget of Rs 75,021 crore, aims to provide 300 units of free electricity per month to 1 crore households, alongside generating an income of Rs 15,000 per family. Launched by Prime Minister Modi on February 13, the initiative received praise for its potential to create around 17 lakh direct jobs in various sectors related to solar energy.

Addressing the press after the cabinet meeting, Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur highlighted the scheme’s role in boosting the solar manufacturing sector and creating employment opportunities. The PM-Surya Ghar scheme offers Central Financial Assistance (CFA) for Residential Rooftop Solar installations, providing subsidies through a National Portal and facilitating low-interest loans for households.

Additionally, the scheme emphasizes the development of model solar villages in each district and incentivizes urban local bodies and Panchayati Raj Institutions to promote rooftop solar installations. It is projected to add 30 GW of solar capacity in the residential sector, reducing CO2 emissions significantly over its 25-year lifespan.

Overall, the approval of the PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme marks a significant step towards achieving energy sustainability and fostering economic empowerment at the grassroots level.
