Miss Universe 2022: Miss United States R’Bonney Gabriel wins the title; watch the moment of triumph. R’Bonney Gabriel, a fashion designer, model, and sewing instructor from Texas, was crowned Miss Universe on Saturday night, becoming the first Filipino American to do so, according to competition officials.
Gabriel, 28, defeated Miss Venezuela Amanda Dudamel and Miss Dominican Republic Andrena Martnez for the coveted title. Miss India Harnaaz Sandhu handed over her crown to Gabriel as she handed over the Miss Universe title to her successor.
Texas’ fashion designer, model, and sewing instructor is the first Miss Universe winner in ten years. Olivia Culpo was the last Miss USA to win the title in 2012.
Gabriel was previously the first Filipino American to win the Miss USA pageant, according to competition officials.

Gabriel is a Filipino-American from Houston, Texas. She became the first Asian American woman to be crowned Miss Texas USA in June 2022. When she won the Miss USA title in October, she became the first person of Filipino descent to do so.
Gabriel spoke to ABC News’ Houston affiliate about her family after winning in October.
“My father came to America on a college scholarship from the Philippines with about USD 20 in his pocket. He desired to start a new life for himself. He met my mother, a country woman from Beaumont, in Texas. “I’m a proud Filipina Texan,” she declared.
A fashion designer who is environmentally conscious and has her own clothing line
Gabriel is a fashion designer and model. She was a high school volleyball player who fell in love with sewing at the age of 15 and is now a sewing instructor.
Gabriel graduated from the University of North Texas in 2018 with a Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design and a Minor in Fiber. She interned for fashion designer Nicole Miller and is well-known for her environmental concerns.
R’Bonney Nola is her own sustainable clothing line. Her gown for the first round of Miss Texas USA was made from a coat she found at a thrift store.
Gabriel is said to like hula hooping, backpacking, and reading.
Gabriel’s victorious response
Gabriel was asked how she would work to make the Miss Universe organization more progressive and empowering if she won the 71st Miss Universe pageant during the final question-and-answer segment.
“I teach sewing classes to women who have escaped human trafficking and domestic violence. And I say that because it is so important to invest in others, invest in our community, and use your unique talent to make a difference,” Gabriel said.
“We all have something special, and when we plant those seeds for other people in our lives, we transform them and use that as a vehicle for change,” she added, emphasizing her desire to be a “transformational leader.”
Miss Universe 2022 will get all this apart from a diamond crown
- The most beautiful and intelligent woman in the universe is crowned first. The cost of the crown worn by Miss Universe is approximately USD 5.75 million.
- This crown has been named ‘Force for Good’. It is fully hand-crafted with a total of 993 stones. It is furnished with 110.83 carats of blue sapphire and 48.24 carats of white diamond
- Apart from this crown, Miss Universe has also got cash prize money. Not only this, the entire expenses of America’s R’Bonney Gabriel will be borne by the company for a whole year.
- She will also get flat, skin care items, jewelry, shoes, clothes, makeup, and hair products in New York for one year.
- She will also get traveling and hotel expenses for one year and these expenses are borne by the organization which organizes the Miss Universe contest.
- A team of photographers will also be provided for Miss Universe. However, in exchange for all these facilities, Miss Universe R’Bonney Gabriel will have to participate in interviews, premieres, events, and charity shows.
- Also, the Miss Universe becomes the Chief Ambassador of the Miss Universe Organization for a whole year.
