New Delhi: Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Anurag Singh Thakur has said that currently, under Khelo India Scheme, 2 thousand 841 athletes have been selected as Khelo India Athletes across the country in 21 sports disciplines.
In a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha, Mr Thakur said that under “Sports Competition and Talent Development” component of the scheme, they are selected based on their performance in the Khelo India Games, National Championships, or open selection trials. He said, through the National Sports Talent Search Portal, the Sports Authority of India provides a platform for the identification of talented sportspersons in priority Sports disciplines in which the country has potential and advantage. The Minister added that the identified athletes are nurtured under the guidance of experienced coaches in various training facilities to excel in National and International sporting events.
