Secunderabad: Union Home Minister Amit Shah attended Hyderabad Liberation Day celebrations on September 17, 2023, in Secunderabad, Telangana. The princely state of Hyderabad merged into the Indian Union on September 17, 1948, commemorated as ‘Mukti Diwas’ (Liberation Day).

Shah paid tribute to the brave soldiers who fought against the Nizam’s army and Razakars (armed supporters of Nizam’s rule) and hoisted the national flag during the parade ground event.

In his speech, Shah said that Hyderabad Liberation Day is a day to remember the sacrifices of the freedom fighters who fought for the liberation of the state from the Nizam’s rule. He also said that the day is a reminder of the importance of unity and integrity of India.

Shah also spoke about the various development projects that the Modi government has undertaken in Telangana. He said that the government is committed to the development of all regions of India, including Telangana.

The Hyderabad Liberation Day celebrations were attended by a large number of people, including Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao and other state ministers and officials.

Significance of Hyderabad Liberation Day

Hyderabad Liberation Day is celebrated on September 17 to commemorate the liberation of the princely state of Hyderabad from the Nizam’s rule in 1948. The Nizam was reluctant to join the Indian Union after independence, and his forces clashed with the Indian Army in what is known as the Operation Polo. The Indian Army defeated the Nizam’s forces, and Hyderabad merged into the Indian Union on September 17, 1948.

Hyderabad Liberation Day is a reminder of the sacrifices made by the freedom fighters who fought for the liberation of the state. It is also a day to celebrate the unity and integrity of India.
