Howrah: Amidst violent protests of people from a certain community in Howrah district of West Bengal, BJP MP Saumitra Khan on Saturday wrote a letter to union Home Minister Amit Shah to save Bengal from burning. The BJP MP, in his letter, clearly mentioned that West Bengal is not safe and appealed the union Home Minister to deploy Central forces to save Bengal.

This comes after the protests in different parts of the Howrah district in West Bengal, especially in the Muslim-dominated Uluberia subdivision, since Friday noon against the remarks made by the suspended BJP Spokesperson Nupur Sharma.

Meanwhile, the Section 144 CrPC, imposed in and around the stretches of National Highways and Railway Stations in Uluberia-Sub Division of Howrah, has been extended till June 15.

Internet services were suspended in the Howrah district on Friday evening amid the violent protests. The internet will remain suspended till 6 am on June 13, said an order.

Voice calls and SMS services will remain active, it added. Internet services were suspended to prevent the spread of any rumour of unlawful activities, the order said.
