New Delhi:  The Supreme Court will today hear the petition of the Aam Aadmi Party to hold the Delhi Municipal Corporation elections soon. On July 20, the court issued notices to the central government and the Delhi State Election Commission.

The Aam Aadmi Party says that the elections are being delayed in the name of the delimitation of the seats in the corporation. The election should not be postponed on this basis. The first municipal elections were held in April 2017.

North Delhi Municipal Corporation and South Delhi Municipal Corporation had 104 wards each, and East Delhi Municipal Corporation had 64 wards. All three municipal corporations have been merged.
