Chandigarh: The Punjab government has again made preparations to implement the one MLA pension scheme. The file has been sent back after the governor did not stamp the decision taken by the Punjab government in the cabinet. Due to this, the Mann government has not yet been able to implement one MLA one pension in Punjab.

The issue was raised again in the cabinet meeting on Tuesday. The Cabinet has given its approval to amend Section 3(1) of the Punjab State Legislative Members (Pension and Medical Facilities Regulation) Act, 1977. With this, a pension (irrespective of the number of terms) will be given to the MLAs of the Punjab Legislative Assembly at the new rate (Dearness Allowance of Rs.60,000 per month, which is applicable to Punjab Government pensioners). This will replace the existing system, according to which a pension of Rs 15,000 per month for the first term (including dearness allowance, which is applicable to Punjab Government pensioners) and Rs 10,000 per month (including dearness allowance) for each subsequent term. which is applicable to the pensioners of the Punjab Government). With this amendment, the Punjab government will save about Rs 19.53 crore annually.
