PM appeals to citizens to participate in International Yoga Day

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has appealed to the people to include yoga in their daily routine and be a part of International Yoga Day on June 21.

 

The Prime Minister also shared his speech at the United Nations General Assembly on September 27, 2014 on Twitter in which he urged the United Nation to declare June 21, as the International Day of Yoga which was accepted by the world body.

 

Modi said in a tweet on Sunday, In the coming days, the world will mark International Day of Yoga. I urge you all to mark Yoga Day and make Yoga a part of your daily lives. The benefits are many.

 

In his 2014 speech at the United Nations General Assembly, Prime Minister said, “Yoga is our ancient traditional invaluable gift. It is the embodiment of unity of mind and body, thought and action, restraint and achievement, and the harmony between man and nature. Yoga is a holistic approach to health and wellness. Yoga is not merely an exercise, but is a means of achieving harmony with oneself and with world and nature. It can be helpful in fighting climate change by making changes in our lifestyle and creating awareness in us. Let us work towards starting an International Yoga Day.”

 

In this video the then External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj is shown expressing her happiness over the declaration of June 21, as International Yoga Day. Swaraj said, in just 75 days, this resolution was passed by co-sponsoring of 177 countries which in itself is a record.
