Pak drone drops arms, ammunition, cash in Samba

Jammu: Security forces on Thursday recovered arms and ammunition along with cash from a packet, dropped by a Pakistani drone, in a field near Channi Manhasan in Vijaipur area of Samba, Jammu.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police received information about the sighting of a packet in a field in Samba in the early hours of Thursday. Security forces including the bomb disposal team of Jammu and Kashmir Police rushed to the spot and found the contraband in the sealed packet.

The police recovered a steel Improvised Explosive Device (IED), two pistols, 4 magazines, several batteries and a watch alongwith ₹5 lakh in cash.

Additional SP Samba Surinder Chowdhary said, following credible inputs, the police team of Vijaypur police station recovered a suspicious sealed packet in the field near Chhanni Manhasan, Samba .

As per preliminary information, it is a case of drone drop by Pakistan in an attempt to smuggle arms and cash to the Indian side for carrying out terrorism-related activities in Jammu and Kashmir. According to officials, drone movement spotted in the area of Vijaypur which is opposite the Sialkot-Pakistan border.

Senior police officers including SSP Samba reached the spot and supervised the operation, searches are being conducted in the vicinity as the security forces suspect more drones in the area.

This matter has come to the fore after a suspicious drone was detected by the Air Traffic Control (ATC) radar near Jammu airport in Jammu and Kashmir on November 20. Security forces were put on high alert, especially after the suspicious drone was detected near the Jammu airport.
