The Dehradun police have arrested a man Shahwaz (26) on charges of murdering his sister Anam (22) and brother-in-law Kashif (25) whose decomposed bodies were found in a rented house in the Clement Town area on June 13. The police had also found the five-day-old son of the couple along with their bodies who was admitted to the hospital for treatment. After getting treatment for 10 days, Kashif’s family was given custody of the infant on Friday morning under the supervision of the child welfare committee, said the senior superintendent of police Daleep Singh Kunwar.  The police were initially claiming that it appeared to be a suicide case in the preliminary investigation but it reportedly turned out to be a murder case when the father of Kashif filed a complaint against Shahwaz. He claimed that Shahwaz killed the couple regarding a property matter.

However, the SSP has claimed that the police were investigating the matter despite the suspicion of it being a suicide case initially. He said that the post-mortem reports were also inconclusive as both bodies had decomposed quite badly.  He said that analysing the CCTV footage of the area, the police found that a car arrived at the murder site in the wee hours of June 13 and returned within a few minutes. The police questioned the victims’ families about the car. They informed them that it belongs to a man named Ashwad. The latter told the police that Shahwaz had taken his car that day. The police filed a case against him on June 21 on the complaint of Kashif’s father, as per SSP. He said that the police brought the accused for questioning. He reportedly confessed to killing the couple on June 10 when he was staying with them that night.  Kunwar said that the accused will be soon presented in court.
