Deshmukh, Malik denied bail for RS polls

Mumbai/ Nagpur: Former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh and Minister without portfolio Nawab Malik have been denied bail for Rajya Sabha election voting.

The two had applied for a one-day bail for voting. Both Deshmukh and Malik are in jail in money laundering cases. Deshmukh was arrested in November last year, after police officer Sachin Waze and former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh accused him of corruption. Deshmukh was accused of directing Waze to collect Rs 100 crore from liquor shops and bars in Mumbai.

Malik is accused of deal in property and association with persons related to underworld don Dawood Abrahim. Malik was arrested in February.

The Special Court had referred the bal applications to Enforcement Directorate for its remarks. The ED had rejected the demand, which was maintained by the court. Deshmukh and Malik will not be able to cast their votes.
