Arun Goel takes over as Election Commissioner

New Delhi: Arun Goel took charge as the new Election Commissioner (EC) on Monday.

Chief Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar personally called up Arun Goel and congratulated him on his appointment. He is currently in Nepal as an international observer for the ongoing national elections there.

Welcoming him to the Election Commission, Kumar said that Goel’s vast and varied administrative experience will further strengthen the efforts of the Commission in ensuring that the electoral process is more inclusive, accessible and participative.

Arun Goel is a 1985 batch IAS officer of Punjab Cadre with MSc in Mathematics. He has been Secretary in the Ministry of Heavy Industry and Ministry of Culture. He has also been the Deputy Chairman of the Delhi Development Authority. He has been Joint Secretary in the Revenue Department and in the Ministry of Urban Development.
