BT Correspondent, Mumbai: After signing an MoU with Isha Outreach, Maharashtra became the fifth Indian state to join the Save Soil global movement.

On Monday, Maharashtra Environment Minister Aditya Thackeray and Sadhguru, founder of the Isha Foundation, exchanged memorandums of understanding at an event at Mumbai’s Jio Convention Center.
In a tweet, Maharashtra’s Environment Minister stated: We have come to a critical point on our planet today, and if we don’t do something for this very generation… we might not even see the future generation.”

Sadhguru described 15–18 inches of soil as the cream of the planet, but warned that in the last 40–50 years, we have lost 52 per cent of the topsoil, and that with the current level of the human footprint, it will take 13,000 years to create one inch of soil.

While praising the green revolution and its methods for saving millions from the horrors of famines in India, Sadhguru emphasised that the country’s agricultural policies must change.
Earlier, Sadhguru presented the Soil Policy Handbook to Maharashtra Chief Minister Shri Uddhav Thackeray, who expressed his support for the Save Soil campaign.

Prior to Maharashtra, the governments of Gujarat, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh all expressed their full support for the Save Soil campaign.
