Poonch : PDP president Mehbooba Mufti conducted a spirited roadshow in Mendhar, Poonch, amid heavy rainfall on Saturday as part of her campaign for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Mufti, who is contesting from the Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha seat scheduled for polling on May 7 in the third phase of general elections, expressed gratitude for the warm reception despite the inclement weather.

In a social media post on her platform X, Mufti expressed her gratitude, stating, “Overwhelmed by the love & affection of people who welcomed me despite heavy rains. Jeet humari Inshallah (If God wills)”. She further declared, “Roadshow at Mendhar, Poonch. We forge ahead,” in another post.

During a previous roadshow in Anantnag district earlier in the week, Mufti emphasized that this election transcends party lines, framing it as a collective effort to challenge the issue of job captures.

Mufti had unveiled the PDP’s manifesto for the 2024 general elections on April 19, pledging to prioritize the empowerment of women and youth.

The Lok Sabha polling for Udhampur constituency was conducted during the first phase on April 19, while Jammu went to polls during the second phase on April 26. Polling for Srinagar and Baramulla Lok Sabha constituencies is scheduled for May 13 and May 20, respectively.

In the aftermath of the abrogation of Article 370 leading to the division of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, there is no separate Lok Sabha constituency for Ladakh. In the 2019 elections, the BJP secured three seats, while the National Conference won the remaining three.

The PDP and NC, despite being part of the opposition alliance INDIA bloc, have opted to contest separately in the Lok Sabha elections in Jammu and Kashmir.

The general elections, spanning seven phases over a six-week period, will culminate on June 27. The counting of votes and declaration of results are scheduled for June 4.
