Tragic Bus Accident in Ladakh: 7 Dead, 20 Injured After Plunge into Gorge; Army Leads Rescue Operation

Leh (Ladakh): A tragic accident occurred in Ladakh on Thursday when a school bus carrying 27 passengers lost control and plunged into a 200-meter deep gorge near Durbuk, resulting in the deaths of seven people and injuries to 20 others.

According to Indian Army officials, the incident took place around 11:05 AM, approximately 5 kilometers from Durbuk. Army troops stationed nearby quickly responded, rushing to the scene to evacuate the victims.

Initially, all 27 passengers, including six fatalities, were taken to a nearby Military Hospital and the Primary Health Centre at Tangste. Subsequently, 14 air sorties by military ALH and Cheetal helicopters were conducted to transport the injured to the Military Hospital in Leh. Following initial examinations, 20 patients were moved to SNM Hospital in Leh, while one individual with a spinal injury remained at the Military Hospital for further treatment. Tragically, one more person succumbed to injuries after reaching SNM Hospital, bringing the death toll to seven.
